i didn't end up seeng John Vanderslice. last night was the Rilo Kiley show at Hailey's.
two groups: The Elected and Tilly & the Wall preceded Rilo Kiley's appearance on stage. the Elected were pretty good indie/folky/quasi-country, but Tilly & the Wall left something to be desired. namely: a drummer and bassist. in the stead of a drummer, they had a drum machine and a girl tap dancing on some metal plates.
Rilo Kiley didn't start playing until about midnight. they played a lot of material from their latest album, More Adventurous. to everyone's delight, i'm sure, they played "Portions For Foxes," no doubt a standout track. they also played almost the same amount of stuff from The Execution of All Things. some people kept yelling for "Glendora," but i guess Rilo Kiley refuse to play it. they probably have some good reason.
the drummer was really good, and really owned on this 32nd note fill on the last full band song. it made my eyes bug out.
Hailey's was really small and crowded, and i felt not-so-good at points, but i made it through all the sets. i promptly fell asleep, not to wake until 1:30 today. good morning.
